Dull Game

The Indians beat the Athletics Monday night 1-0. For a lack of action, there were 21 strikeouts in the game and just one walk. The teams combined for 11 hits, but the only one that mattered was the Carlos Santana home run that proved to be the game winner.

The pitcher allowing the home run was Ryan Dull. Dull is having a good season in relief, making 57 appearances so far with a 2.34 ERA. In 61 2/3 innings he walked 11 and struck out 59. His weak spot is home runs, Santana’s being the ninth he allowed this season.

Note, too, that this was an unusual game for the Oakland batters. This season, the offense is playing more like the Royals, low in both strikeouts and walks. They are putting the ball in play. Carlos Carrasco and Andrew Miller combined for 12 K against him in the game, however, a big reason they were shutout.
