Games of the Day

The Nationals travel up the Beltway to Baltimore as Stephen Strasburg takes on Dylan Bundy in a battle of playoff contenders. Strasburg pitched four poor games in his last six starts, taking him out of Cy Young Award contention. His strikeout numbers remain excellent, but despite the high K total he is allowing a high number of hits. Bundy, in his first full season in the majors, shows excellent control with 70 K and just 22 walks in 75 innings. He is striking out more batters as a starter than a reliever, but is also allowing many more home runs.

Houston and Pittsburgh find themselves going in opposite directions in the wild card race as they send Doug Fister against Jameson Taillon. The Astros won three in a row, while the Pirates lost three in a row. Fister pitches better on the road, 8-3 with a 3.36 ERA, mainly due to a higher strikeout rate. Taillon is proving to be a useful rookie, with 52 K and just 9 walks in his first 66 major league innings.

Finally, the Yankees travel to Seattle trailing the Mariners by three games as both try to break into the top of the wild card race. Michael Pineda takes on Cody Martin. Pineda allows way to many hits for his strikeout numbers, putting his ERA a run higher than his FIP. Martin makes just his second start of 2016 after posting a 2.70 ERA as a reliever.

Enjoy!
