Weekly Look at Offense

Offense continues to be down a bit since the All-Star break. Through week 17, MLB is producing 8.89 runs per game, compared to 8.23 runs per game through the same point in 2015. The increased scoring continues to be fueled by home runs and walks. Batters are striking out less, as Ks per game remained a hair below 16.0 at 15.97 per game.

The 2015 season did gain a little ground in week 17. The past 12 weeks of 2016 beat the corresponding week of 2015 in runs per game. The 2015 season won week 17, and offense remained high for the rest of 2015. We’ll see how much 2015 catches up the rest of the way.
