The Mets are trying to put the ball in play early against Madison Bumgarner. To a certain extent it is working, as through two innings Bumgarner has not struck out a batter. He also has not allowed a base runner as he threw just 14 pitches to retire the first six Mets. New York is leaving plenty of gas in the tank of their opposing pitcher.
Noah Syndergaard retired the first six Giants as well, striking out three and throwing 28 pitches. That’s a good pitch count as well, and Bumgarner is at half of that.
