Beating the Shift

Chase Headley just picked up his third hit of the day against the shift. None were hit hard, but with the third baseman out of position, they were easy singles. The Rays appeared to move the fielder closer to the bag in the ninth, but not close enough. Headley is three for four on the day, a pretty good start to the season. The Yankees still trail the Rays 7-2 in the ninth, but have the bases loaded and no one out.

Update: The Yankees get a run, but the Rays win 7-3. Chris Archer walked one and struck out five in seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He kept the ball in the park, which was his problem last season.
