Random Player Report

The Random Evil Player programed select Nick Williams for the next review. Williams played as a true rookie in 2017, coming up in June to man rightfield for the Phillies, playing at seasonal age 23. He hit well as a rookie, with a .288/.338/.473 slash line. He demonstrated the ability to adjust his game to the situation. With the bases empty, he reached base at a .365 clip. With runners on, 21 of his 46 hits went for extra bases, good for a .583 slugging percentage. He scored 45 runs and drove in 55 runs in 83 games. He has plenty of room for improvement as he matures.

It’s impressive how much his MLB number matched his minor league lines. He hit .286/.331/.478 in his career at the lower levels. Normally one would expect a bit of a fall-off, but Williams was always young for his level, so he was facing more mature competition. (Kudos to Baseball Reference for including minor league age difference.) Williams may not become a star player, but he looks like a solid hitter who should thrive high in the order for the Phillies.
