Random Player Report

The Random Evil Player program selected Jesse Winker for the latest review. Winker played as a true rookie in 2017, and if he spent the whole season in Cincinnati he might have been considered for the rookie of the year award. In 347 plate appearances at AAA Louisville he hit .314/.395/.408. In 147 PA for the MLB club, Winker hit .298/.375/.529. In what should be a very good sign for the Reds, Winker’s power came mostly on the road.

Looking at Winker’s minor league numbers, I wonder why the Reds kept him down so long. He hit well at every level, and would work well either in front of or behind Joey Votto in the order. I suspect because the Reds were not that good, Cincinnati held him back to capture his entire peak before he gets to free agency. I’m very excited to see what he does over a full season.
