Random Player Report

The Evil Player program selected Jason Grilli for the latest profile. Grilli is a free agent reliever who would play 2018 as a 41-year-old. He spent 15 season in the majors, marked by a good strikeout rate, a poor walk rate, and a decent home run rate. The strikeout rate developed over time. Through the 2005 season, Grilli was used mostly as a starter and struck out just 4.9 batters per 9 IP (K/9). He moved to the bullpen permanently in 2006, and his strikeout rate started to rise. He started at 4.5 K/9 in 2006, and reached his peak of 13.8 K/9 in 2012. While that rate has dropped since that time, it remained high enough to keep Grilli effective.

Unfortunately, his walk rate and home run rate rose over the last two seasons. That combination may doom his chances of continuing to pitch in the majors.
