Shorter Machado

The Orioles appear to be ready to move Manny Machado to shortstop with the injury to J.J. Hardy:

Gold Glove third baseman Manny Machado is expected to shift back to shortstop, his natural position, when Baltimore hosts the skidding New York Yankees, who have lost five straight and 13 of 17. Machado would make the move to replace injured Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy, who will be sidelined for at least a month with a hairline fracture in his left foot. Machado, the AL player of the month for April, began his pro career as a shortstop and has played four games there this season, including two starts.

If he plays well there, he might not move back. Hardy wasn’t hitting well, and it’s easier to find a third baseman who hits well than a shortstop.
