Bautista Disabled

The Blue Jays placed Jose Bautista on the disabled list:

The front-running Blue Jays have received some concerning news when star outfielder Jose Bautista showed up at Rogers Centre on Wednesday complaining of soreness to his left knee.

Bautista injured the knee in Tuesday’s game when he caught a cleat coming in to field a harmless ground ball in the third inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bautista remained in the game in right field until the top of the ninth inning when he was subbed by Darrell Ceciliani in what was a 9-2 win by the Rays.

Toronto’s offense isn’t what it was in 2016, although still good. Losing Bautista in the middle of a tight AL East and AL Wild Card race doesn’t help. It’s much better to let him heal, however, and have him for the stretch run that risk further injury. Given that his BA and power were down, his replacement has the opportunity to improve the team.
