Comeback Kids

The Giants and Cardinals both mounted comebacks from four-run deficits to win games Monday night. The Giants were down 5-1 to the Marlins when they scored five runs in the seventh. The teams wound up tied at seven after nine innings, the Giants winning in the 14th inning when two, two-out walks brought Andrew Cashner into the game in relief, and he gave up an RBI single to Brandon Crawford. It was Crawford’s seventh hit of the night. He missed the cycle by a home run.

The Cardinals were down 4-0 to the Reds with two out in the bottom of the ninth and a man on first after a lead-off single. Reds pitchers would then walk three batters, allow two more hits, and hit two batters. The final hit by pitch came with the bases loaded and drove in the winning run as the Cardinals win 5-4.

These two teams are master of the big comeback. This was the fifth time this season each came back from a four-run deficit. They are tied with Seattle for the most comeback of that size, with no other club having more than three.
