Blake Snell takes on J.A. Happ as the Rays and Blue Jays finish their series. True rookie Snell impressed so far with his strikeouts, 56 K in 55 IP, and his home runs allowed, just two dingers. He has been wild, however, walking 27 batters. Toronto puts some selective hitters on the field, so look for them to exploit that weakness. The Rays own Happ this season. He is 0-1 against them in three starts with a 7.98 ERA. Five of Happ’s 15 home runs allowed came off the Rays bats in just 14 2/3 innings.
Veteran aces pitch late as Justin Verlander faces Felix Hernandez as the Tigers battle the Mariners in Seattle. Verlander is on a roll since the start of July, allowing two runs or less in each of his seven starts. He struck out 57 in 48 2/3 innings in that time. Hernandez is still trying to regain his form since returning from the disabled list. In four starts, he allowed 11 walks and five home runs in 25 2/3 innings, helping him to a 5.26 ERA.
