Two aces take the mound Friday afternoon as Adam Wainwright takes on the Cubs and Jake Arrieta. Wainwright has two minimal quality starts against the Cubs this season, allowing three runs in both his starts for a 4.26 ERA. He has not allowed a home run in either start. Arrieta pitched a bit wilder since the last game the end of the win streak, walking 3.3 batters per nine and throwing five wild pitches in 11 games.
Alex Rodriguez’s last game features Chris Archer of the Rays against CC Sabathia of the Yankees. Rodriguez is 2 for 15 against Archer with three walks and five Ks, but both hits were home runs.
David Dahl tries to set the record for longest hit streak at the start of a career as the Rockies face the Phillies and rookie Jake Thompson. Opponents are 7 for 19, .368, against Thompson in his career.
The Dodgers are one of three teams ahead of the Pirates in the wild card race as Ivan Nova and Pittsburgh visit Ross Stripling in Los Angeles. Nova pitched a good game in his first start for the Pirates, walking none and striking out five in seven innings. In 47 innings as a starter, Stripling allowed just three home runs.
