A bright spot for the Reds this season is Anthony DeSclafani, 6-0 with a 2.93 ERA. He faces the Pirates and Jameson Taillon. DeSclafani’s strength is his low walk rate, 1.9 BB per 9 IP this season and 2.4 per 9 for his career. Taillon also showing great control, walking just five in 46 innings in his rookie year.
The Mets travel to Detroit as Noah Syndergaard takes on Baseball Musings pitcher of July, Justin Verlander. Syndergaard pitched well in July with a 2.45 ERA, but only earned one win in five starts against two losses. Verlander allowed just one home run in 42 2/3 July innings, going 4-0 in six starts.
