It looks like the Cardinals will go down in flames this Friday afternoon. I came home from work and the Cubs were leading St. Louis 9-1 in the seventh. In a few minutes the Cubs added two home runs and four runs, and now lead 13-1 in the top of the eighth.
The Cardinals came into this series twelve games behind the Cubs. While it would be unlikely that the Cardinals caught the Cubs that far back, a series win would give them some momentum in the wild card race, and show them they could beat the Cubs in a possible post-season match-up. Instead, St. Louis loses the first game on a Cubs walk-off win, then probably gets blown out today.
The Cubs are looking like the team to beat this season, and the Cardinals are showing that they are not the team to do it.
