Lance McCullers, Jr. and Yu Darvish, with full bullpens behind them, take the hill in game seven of the 2017 World Series Wednesday night at 8:20 PM EDT. One of these teams will end a long World Series drought.
It’s been a good century for ending droughts. The Angels in 2002, the Red Sox in 2004, the White Sox in 2005, and the Cubs in 2016 all ended droughts of over 40 years. This is the Astros 56th season without a championship, third longest in the majors now. The Dodgers have gone 29 years without a championship, not great but not terrible. With 30 teams, winning a championship every 30 years should be expected.
McCullers comes into the game with a 2.95 ERA in the 2017 post-season. His weakness is walks. McCullers issued nine free passes in 18 1/3 innings. They have not hurt him much, however, as he allowed just one home run and 10 hits in total.
Darvish comes off a game three blow up in which he allowed four runs in 1 2/3 innings, one of his worst career performances. Overall, however, he allowed a 4.15 ERA, having walked two and struck out 14 in 13 innings. The three home runs he allowed account for half the runs.
Enjoy!
