Happy Birthday, Dad!

Happy birthday to my father, 96 years old today. He was born the year Babe Ruth joined the Yankees, which would become his team. While Ruth did not homer that day, he did hit a double, while his teammate Aaron Ward homered twice. Shoeless Joe Jackson, in his penultimate game, went 0 for 4 with a run scored. Dad is still an avid fan, and watches the Yankees as often as he can. One nice thing about modern specialty channels is that he can catch night games the next morning on YES. He also can watch games most afternoons on MLB Network.

There are now just nine living former major league players older than dad. He moves up five places from last year. The oldest of those is Eddie Carnett, who turns 100 on Oct. 21st.
