Weekly Look at Offense

The gap between 2015 and 2016 closed again in week 25. For the fourth consecutive week, 2016 came in below the corresponding week in 2015. It also looks like MLB will not reach 9.0 runs per game in 2016, falling short right now at 8.96 runs per game, compared to 8.53 runs per game through 25 weeks in 2015. This season showed a nice boost to offense, due to many more home runs and walks. That doesn’t seem to be the way MLB necessarily wants to go, as fewer other hits might make the game a little more boring, especially with all the strike outs. We’ll see what kind of tweaks they make to the game over the winter, especially with the CBA under negotiation.
