Masahiro Tanaka and Kevin Gausman each pitch eight shutout innings, which means two great performances go for naught in the win-loss column. Gausman allowed just three hits and no walks as he struck out four. Tanaka allowed five hits and a walk, striking out seven.
Dustin Ackley just made an outstanding catch to send the game to extra innings. With a runner on first and one out, Matt Wieters gets most of the ball and drives it to the wall in right. Ackley leaps and makes a catch against a sign that then ripples. Wieters thought it was a hit and had the runner hold second, while the throw comes in for a double play. Replay showed it was a great catch, and the glove, not the ball, caused the ripples.
