For the second week in a row, a week in 2016 produced many more runs than the same week in 2015. That puts 2016 at 8.76 runs per game for the season, versus 8.29 for the first nine weeks of 2015. The same pattern holds comparing the first nine weeks of the two seasons. Home runs are way up (2.2 per games versus 1.9 per game). There are 0.6 more walks per game, and 0.8 more strikeouts per game. Overall, 0.6 more batters reach base per game. More batters on, plus more home runs yields more runs.
In 2015, the majors were in week two of a major offensive drought (graph at the above link). That’s not happening this season, and 2016 may end up blowing 2016 out of the water.
