Games of the Day

Nick Tepesch returns to the majors after missing all of 2015 to lead the Dodgers into Pittsburgh against rookie Jameson Taillon. Tepesch suffered elbow inflammation and needed thoracic output surgery. He joined the Dodgers earlier this month after opting out of his minor league contract with Texas:

Tepesch, 27, has a 2.00 ERA with Oklahoma City, winning all three starts with 17 strikeouts and just three walks in 18 innings, including eight strikeouts and no walks in eight strong innings in his last start, allowing just one run in New Orleans last Friday.

Taillon’s strength so far is his walk rate, just four BB in 18 innings of work. He also allowed four home runs, but still holds a 3.50 ERA.

The AL Central remains competitive as Cleveland visits Detroit with Danny Salazar facing Jordan Zimmermann. Salazar improved on a good 2015 season by cutting down on home runs allowed, tough to do when homers are up across the majors. Zimmermann goes for his tenth win, which would give him five years in a row in double digits in that category. He pitched poorly at home with a low strikeout rate and a high home run rate.

Max Scherzer tries to put an end to the Nationals losing streak as the team visits Milwaukee to face Zach Davies. Scherzer allowed four runs in the month of June, all four driven in by the three home runs he allowed. Davies made 2/3 of his starts at home this season, where he owns a 2.88 ERA. He’s walked 11 batters in 50 innings in Milwaukee.

Enjoy!
