Weekly Look at Offense

Offense continued to boom in the majors as the difference in scoring between 2015 and 2016 at the same point int he season rose to 0.61 runs per game. MLB games are generating 8.86 runs per game through 12 weeks, while 2015 saw 8.25 runs per game through the first 12 weeks. The 9.59 runs per game scored during week 12 was the highest of the season, the second week in a row reaching a new high. Batters hit over 400 more home runs this season in five fewer games. Players are walking more, about 1/2 a walk per game, and strikeouts are down a bit this week, falling under 16.0 per game for the season to 15.96, but up compared to 2015, 15.15 through 12 weeks. Batters are getting on base and pounding the ball, and they are starting to make contact more often.
