Games of the Day

Tim Lincecum returns to the majors, moving down the coast to pitch for the Angels. Rookie Zach Neal makes the start for Oakland. Lincecum made three starts at AAA, posting a 2.65 ERA at Salt Lake City. He walked six and struck out 19 in 17 innings. If he can come anywhere near those rates in the majors, the Angels will be very pleased with this acquisition. Neal makes his second start of the season. He has not walked a batter in 12 MLB innings, but he only struck out four. With all those balls in play and a poor defense behind him, Neal allowed 18 hits, good for a .340 BA. Eight of those hits went for extra bases.

It’s a two Martinez lunch in St. Louis as Nick Martinez of Texas takes on Carlos Martinez of the Cardinals. Nick makes his first start of the season after two relief appearances. In his short major league career, Nick Martinez allowed 34 home runs in just 268 innings, good for a .452 slugging percentage allowed. Carlos Martinez remains good at keeping the ball in the park, with just 24 home runs allowed in 372 2/3 innings. Opponents are slugging just .355 against him for his career.

Enjoy!
