First to 30

Mark Trumbo hit his 30th home run of the season in the first inning, a two-run shot that give the Orioles a 3-0 lead over the Indians. Trumbo leads the majors in home runs. This is the third time he reached 30 homers in a season, 32 in 2012 and 34 in 3013. Reaching 30 in July gives him the chance to greatly surpass those two seasons.

Trumbo improved other parts of his offense, which is why he is doing so much better. His BABIP this season is .321 compared to .294 for his career, so even when he’s not hitting home runs, he’s probably hitting the ball harder. He’s hitting a higher percentage of fly balls, and a higher percentage are going out. He’s a poster child for the change in approach that is resulting him more offense.
