Nail Biter of the Year

The Yankees beat the Blue Jays 7-6 in a back and forth game that ends with the Blue Jays leaving the bases loaded as Blake Parker has to bail out Dellin Betances. The Blue Jays led 2-1 when the Yankees scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, to give the lead back when the Blue Jays scored twice in the top of the eighth. The Yankees responded with four in the bottom of the eighth for a three-run lead. Betances could not find the plate with his breaking ball, and managed just one out, walking three and allowing two hits. Parker came in and got a strike out, then Justin Smoak launched a long fly ball to left. Brett Gardner leaped, got the ball in his glove as he crashed into the wall. The ball crawled up the glove in the webbing, and as Gardner came down, he did not know if the ball was in his glove. He looked, saw the snow cone, secured the ball, then jumped in happiness as the Yankees gain another game on the division leaders. It was not pretty, but it was tense and exciting.

The Jays hitters played very well in the ninth, letting Betances be wild, and making contact when they could. Despite the loss, the Jays lineup showed just how tough they can play.
