More Runs Monday

Two of the late games Monday night continued the high scoring day as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Yankees 12-2, and the Angels beat the Dodgers 7-6. The only low scoring game of the day took place in Oakland, where the Athletics beat the Rangers 3-1. Overall, the eight games produced an average of 13.25 runs per game. That’s the highest scoring day this year in which at least six games were played. It beat April 7th, 12.125 runs per game in eight games. Coming in third, and the highest day for 15 games was April 24th, 11.2 runs per game. May 16th was the fifth day this season with at least eight games that the majors averaged over ten runs per game. With 23 home runs hit on Monday, that ties April 7th for the most HR per game on a day this year.

The quality of starting pitching tonight doesn’t look much better. We might be in for another group of slugfests.
