Games of the Day

Yu Darvish takes on Dylan Bundy as first place teams collide with Texas facing Baltimore. Darvish is not going deep in game yet. In six starts he averages just over five innings. Bundy, in his rookie season, owns good walk and strikeout rates, but so far has a weakness for allowing home runs. We’ll see if Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Beltran make it to Baltimore for the game.

Madison Bumgarner tries to open a bigger lead on the idle Clayton Kershaw in the NL Cy Young race as the Giants face Zach Eflin and the Phillies. Bumgarner is one of six pitchers to have thrown 1200 innings since the start of the 2011 season. The top four in the list all suffered some setbacks this season. Eflin owns a 2.61 ERA at home. He also has two complete games under his belt. That’s unusual for any pitcher today, especially a rookie.

The battle of New York continues as Mashiro Tanaka visits Jacob deGrom as the Yankees play the Mets in Queens. Tanaka remains tough on the road, with a 1.94 ERA away from Yankee Stadium. He allowed just two home runs in 65 road innings. Home is the place for deGrom, where his ERA stands at 2.18 this season. He gives up home runs, but very few hits as he struck out 70 in 62 innings at Citi Field.

Finally, Jose Fernandez meets Jason Hammel as the Marlins continue their series with the Cubs. Well into the 2016 season, Fernandez shows no ill-effects from Tommy John surgery. He struck out an impressive 184 batters in just 125 2/3 innings. Hammel posted a 5.33 ERA in July, but the All-Star break helped. He is 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA since, striking out 18 batters in 18 innings.

Enjoy!
