The Price of Elbow Trouble

David Price underwent an MRI on Wednesday, and he’s already looking for a second opinion on the forearm soreness that led to the test:

Price has been experiencing soreness in his left elbow and forearm, Farrell said. Although the team is still awaiting the results of the MRI on his arm, Price will seek a second opinion from either Dr. James Andrews or Dr. Neal ElAttrache, two of sports’ foremost orthopedic surgeons.

Price, 31, was scheduled to make his first spring training start Sunday against Atlanta but has been scratched.

“We’re concerned,” Farrell told reporters before the Red Sox faced the Tampa Bay Rays at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. “We’re taking every precaution.”

This series of events usually does not end well. Given that the Red Sox were hoping that Price returned to ace-like status, it could be a huge blow to the team if he needs a long recovery.
