Game of the Day

The only decent pitching match-up of the day takes place in Seattle where Eduardo Rodriguez of the Red Sox faces James Paxton of the Mariners. Almost every AL game at this point has potential playoff implications. The Astros lead the AL by 11 games, so it would take an epic collapse for them not to win home field advantage. Between the Red Sox, with the second best record and the Orioles with the 11th best record, there is only a seven game difference. The Mariners, Rangers and Angels are all one game better than the Orioles, so at this point all those teams are chasing the wild card.

Rodriguez is strong in terms of strikeouts and hits allowed as he works his third season in the majors. He improved his strikeout rate every year, but still needs to work on limiting home runs. Paxton is having an outstanding year, 9-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 16 starts. He owns the best HR rate in the AL among pitchers with at least 90 innings. Only Alex Wood holds a better rate in the majors.

Enjoy!
