Chris Archer pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings against the Padres as the Rays win a Wednesday afternoon contest 2-0. Archer dominated, allowing four hits and just one walk while striking out nine.
Archer owned a 4.76 ERA at the end of June. Since then, his ERA stands at a more respectable 3.22. The big difference comes from walks. He averaged 3.9 BB per 9 IP the first three months of the season, 2.0 since. He also brought his home run rate down about 33%, while keeping his strikeouts high. It probably won’t end up a great year for Archer, but he’s giving himself an Rays fans some hope for a better 2017.
