Sad Story

The storybook rookie season of Trevor Story may have come to a surprise ending:

Colorado Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story, who leads the National League with 27 home runs, will have surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb and expects to miss the rest of the season, he said Tuesday.

Story was placed on the disabled list Tuesday after he suffered the injury Saturday on a headfirst slide into second base in the fourth inning of the Rockies’ game against the New York Mets. After staying in the game, he later aggravated the injury when he dove for a ball in the hole.

“Just very disappointing,” Story said. “Very frustrating. The timing of it all is the worst part of it.”

The Rockies were rolling, and story was putting up impressive numbers since the All-Star break. To be continued next year.
