The Rangers beat the Astros 6-5 and the Indians helped Texas as well with a 3-1 win over Seattle. Both teams played well lately and build up a small cushion as they sit in first place in their divisions.
Texas suffered a sweep by Oakland in May but bounced back to sweep the Astros. Since May 20th, they are 13-3. The starting pitchers put together a great run, with a 3.03 ERA and a very low walk rate. The offense was solid, with a .283/.332/.447 slash line, and 90 runs scored. The new guys, Nomar Mazara, Jurickson Profar, and Ian Desmond led the charge on offense. The new Nomar is looking like a great rookie of the year candidate.
The Indians success is over a shorter run, undefeated in at 6-0 in June. All six of those wins came against good teams, however, one each against the Rangers and the Mariners, and four against division rival Kansas City. They outscored their opponents 33-11 in the winning streak, and slugging really stands out. The Indians batters hit .272/.323/.520 with 26 extra base hits, while their opponents hit .193/.249/.284, with 10 extra base hits.
I would love to see the Cubs against the Indians or the Rangers in the World Series, as that would guarantee some long championship drought will end.
