Via BBTF, a good article on how the Red Sox coaching staff gathers and disseminates information:
The Sox coaching staff puts hours into that sheet.
Torey Lovullo, in his fourth year as bench coach and right hand to manager John Farrell, may spend four to six hours watching film to prepare for a series. Third base coach Brian Butterfield may watch anywhere between 10 and 20 hours.
And all those hours get distilled on to that one page.
“Pretty much every bit of information you could want is there,” said third baseman Travis Shaw.
The more players see the information, the more they trust it as well. Although the article doesn’t discuss it, I suspect the staff knows who doesn’t use the data, and I would not be surprised if that counted as a negative against the player.
