Redefining a Bad Game

Clayton Kershaw pitched only six shutout innings against the Braves Saturday night as the Dodgers win 4-0. You can tell Kershaw was off from the box score as he walked one and struck out four:

Kershaw (8-1) struck out four and walked one in his shortest outing this season.

“It wasn’t great tonight,” Kershaw said. “Physically, I felt fine, but the ball wasn’t coming out very good today. Six innings isn’t why we are here, it’s not acceptable.

“I’ll take it for tonight, but I don’t ever want to leave three innings for the bullpen.”

If that’s a bad night…

Kershaw still holds a big lead in Tom Tango Cy Young Tracker points. Jake Arrieta, Madison Bumgarner, and Johnny Cueto will need an actual bad game by Kershaw to catch the big lefty in that category.
