Bird Under the Knife

Greg Bird heads for surgery again:

The Yankees announced Monday that Bird will have surgery Tuesday to remove a small broken spur on the outside of his right ankle that will sideline him for six to eight weeks. It’s another alarming injury for the 25-year-old, who missed the entire 2016 season with a shoulder injury and most of 2017 with a foot issue.

The previous first baseman the Yankees developed was Nick Johnson. Like Bird, Johnson showed a lot of promise, but his career was riddled with injuries. On top of that, Johnson seemed to heal slowly.

Luckily for the Yankees, they are so strong everywhere else that they can easily absorb this injuyr.
