The Orioles landed free-agent pitcher Alex Cobb:
Update: According to an industry source, the deal with Cobb would cover four years, a surprise given their stance at the Winter Meetings.
Update II: The agreement with Cobb, pending a physical, is four years and close to $60 million.
So the Orioles see him as about a two-WAR pitcher, which seems about right.
Cobb owns a career .287 BABIP, which he needs since he doesn’t strike out a ton of batters by the standards of this era. The Rays tended to have great defenses, so Cobb may take a hit from the a few more balls getting through the infield. Overall, it’s a good signing.
