Game of the Day

The top two teams in the National League collide in Washington as the Cubs send Kyle Hendricks against Max Scherzer and the Nationals. Washington sits 15 games above .500, but still trail the Cubs by five games for the best record in the league. Chicago swept a four-game series at home earlier in the season, and the Nats will try to gain three of those back in this series. Hendricks is the anomaly on the Cubs staff. With his 2.90 ERA he is only 4-5, account for 28% of the Cubs losses. That’s mostly due to pitching poorly on the road, where he allowed a 4.23 ERA. Scherzer keeps having the ball knocked out of the park against him, with 16 home runs allowed in just 88 1/3 innings. Only four of those have come in home games, however. He’s only thrown half his innings at home, so as that evens out over the season his home run rate may come down a bit. He’s off to a good start in June, with 3 walks and 17 K in 15 innings, good for a 1.20 ERA.

Enjoy!
