The Cubs continue their series against the Nationals as John Lackey takes on Gio Gonzalez. Since the start of the 2015 season, Lackey ranks 7th in the majors in ERA, thanks to a very low hit rate. Given his strikeouts, I suspect Lackey has been helped by his defense in both St. Louis and Chicago. Gonzalez pitched better than his 3.93 ERA, with 71 K and just 19 walks in 71 innings. Opponents are hitting .412 against him with runners in scoring position.
The Orioles travel to Boston tied with the Red Sox for first place in the AL East. Chris Tillman takes on David Price. Tillman is off to a great start with an 8-1 record and a 3.01 ERA. He has some problems on the road with a 4.32 ERA, thanks to just 18 K in 25 innings and four home runs allowed. Price is 7-3 despite a 4.63 ERA. He pitched better during his last six starts, with a 2.55 ERA. He is still giving up the long ball.
Detroit climbed back into the AL Central race as the take on the failing White Sox. Jordan Zimmermann faces Miguel Gonzalez. Zimmermann pitched great in April, but since they posted a 5.68 ERA. He allowed eight home runs in his last 38 innings. Gonzalez makes just his third appearance at home this season. He struck out 13 and walked none in 12 south side innings this season.
Enjoy!
