The Cubs at the Nationals was the big game of Monday evening, but there were a number of great games Monday night. The Tigers blew a big, early lead after pounding James Shields, and the White Sox win 10-9 in twelve innings on a J.B. Shuck double and an Adam Eaton single. With the Royals winning a pitching duel with the Indians 2-1, only 3 1/2 games separate the top four team in the AL Central.
The Braves and Reds could not decide which team wanted to lose their game, as they traded multi-run innings, the Reds eventually winning 9-8. Adam Duvall hit his 18th home run.
Zack Greinke seems to have figured out Arizona’s home park as he beat the Dodgers 3-2, but two of the three runs scored on solo home runs. The trick is keeping the bases empty.
Jerad Eickhoff pitched six shutout innings as the Phillies blanked the Blue Jays in Toronto. Eickhoff was effectively wild walking four but allowing just three hits. Ryan Howard homered as the DH; 10 of his 24 hits have gone for home runs.
Jered Weaver may be through as the Twins score six runs against him in a 9-4 victory over the Angels. Opponents are now batting .311/.357/.550 against Weaver this year, as he turns his average opponent into an MVP candidate.
Miami scored 13 runs in San Diego to win 13-4. The Padres put on an impressive power show, however, hitting four home runs, but were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position compared to the Marlins 9 for 19!
Oakland pounded the ball Monday night, beating the Rangers 14-5. Khris Davis continues to provide power, hitting his 15th home run. His power comes at a high cost, as he only posts a .283 OBP. Seven Athletics turned in multi-home run games.
The Giants treated their fans to a whupping as well, beating Milwaukee 11-5. They needed those runs as Matt Cain made a poor start in his return from the disabled list, allowing five hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings. The top five hitters in the order combined to go 12 for 20 in the game.
