Mariners Salvage a Game

Robinson Cano hit a sacrifice fly in the 12th inning, and the Mariners prevent the Blue Jays from sweeping by a score of 2-1. With the Astros defeating the Athletics 6-5 earlier, the Rangers won’t be able to clinch a division title this evening. Both western teams gain in the wild card race on Toronto.

Both Aaron Sanchez and Felix Hernandez pitched well, Sanchez allowing one run in six innings, Hernandez holding the Blue Jays scoreless through seven. Jose Bautista hit a game tying home run in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

The Blue Jays head home to start a four-game series with the Yankees on Friday, while the Mariners play three games with Houston starting next Monday. The AL wild card race remains in a great deal of flux.
