The White Sox meet the Indians in Cleveland with James Shields facing Carlos Carrasco. Shields made an unusual first start, allowing just two hits and one run in 5 2/3 innings, striking out five. He also walked five, however, and if he keeps walking batters at that rate he will run into trouble. Carrasco made his good first start more traditionally, walking one and striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings.
The Cardinals and Nationals continue their series as Lance Lynn takes on Gio Gonzalez. The two rank third (Gonzalez) and fourth since the start of the 2011 season in HR allowed per 9 IP in the majors (minimum 750 innings). They own extremely similar walk and strikeout rates also.
Finally, it’s Musgrove love versus Miranda lefts as Houston sends Joe Musgrove against the Mariners and Ariel Miranda. Musgrove posted excellent walk and strikeout numbers in his rookie year of 2016, but allowed nine home runs in 62 innings. He already allowed one home in his first five innings. Miranda was similar, also a rookie in 2016, with not quite as good walk and K numbers. He allowed 12 home runs in 58 innings, and already allowed two in his first five innings of 2017.
Enjoy!
