I really agree with this. Other sports change rules to raise or lower scoring, football being the most obvious manipulator. Football moves the has marks, changes the position of the goal posts, the kickoff yard line, the rules about hitting the quaterback, etc, all to keep game scoring in a certain range. MLB, either consciously or not, allows the baseball to change. How about, “Rawlings changed their manufacturing process, and it resulted in a livelier ball. Offense needed a boost, so we let it stand.” There is a difference between “the ball is the same within the rules” and “the ball is the same.”
