Boston and Toronto play game two of their series that will help decide the AL East Champion. Eduardo Rodriguez faces J.A. Happ. Rodriguez pitched inconsistently well since the All-Star break. In five of his nine starts he allowed one run or less, but he allowed 13 runs in the other four. Overall, he sports a 2.73 ERA in that time. Happ comes into the game 17-4, blowing away his previous single season high in wins, 12 in 2009. He’s 10-2 at home with a 3.05 ERA, holding opponents to a .364 slugging percentage.
The Yankees host the Rays, as New York goes for their seventh win in a row. Chris Archer takes on Masahiro Tanaka. After three consistently good seasons, Archer’s ERA shot up this season by about 3/4 of a run due to an increase in home runs allowed. He seems to be back to normal since the All-Star break, however. Tanaka is 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA against the Rays this season. In three starts totaling 21 innings, he walked one and struck out 19.
