A three-way tie for the NL Wild Card remains the most likely massive tie scenario. It can happen with as many as 91 wins:
Team | Record |
Giants | 14-3 |
Mets | 14-2 |
Cardinals | 15-2 |
The Cardinals start a four-game series in San Francisco on Thursday, today, which is why the Cardinals can’t run the table. That is the only head-to-head series left among the three teams.
Here is one possible AL scenario for a five-way tie for the AL East and two wild card slots:
Team | Record |
Red Sox | 9-8 |
Orioles | 10-7 |
Blue Jays | 11-6 |
Tigers | 12-5 |
Yankees | 13-4 |
The four AL East teams have 24 games left head-to-head, so no one team can run the table and produce a tie. Seattle and Houston are still in this race, but including the Mariners at the moment makes things even more difficult, as they play Toronto head-to-head. Jose Altuve has an oblique injury, which if serious might take Houston out of the race. There are a lot of possibilities in the AL, and with luck things will be a bit clearer after the four-game series between the Yankees and Red Sox starting today.
