Wasted Prime

Freddie Freeman hit a home run and walked twice as the Braves beat the Padres 9-6 Thursday afternoon. Freeman now owns a .289/.389/.553 slash line, maybe the best of his career. In his seasonal age 26 season, he already set single season career highs in triples and home runs, and needs ten doubles to set a high in that power category. It’s too bad the Braves decided to tear the team apart going into the move to a new stadium, instead of building a solid order around an excellent hitter.

The Braves lineup today was also strange. Rather than grouping the best hitters at the top of the order, Brian Snitker seemed to put poor hitters between two good ones. I would have liked to see Jace Peterson, Ender Inciarte, Nick Markakis, and Freeman at the top of the order.
