Games of the Day

Antonio Senzatela makes his major league debut for the Rockies against the Brewers and Chase Anderson. Senzatela posted a great minor league career, 42-19 with a 2.46 ERA. Players put the ball in play against him, as he has low walk and strikeout rates. Those have not produced a lot of hits, however, leading me to believe he’s a ground ball pitcher. His low home run rate indicates that as well. Anderson gives up too many home runs, 62 in 418 2/3 innings during his career. His ERA has inched up every year since his rookie year of 2014.

Jaime Garcia makes his first start outside the Cardinals organization as he leads the Braves against the Mets and Matt Harvey. Garcia had a good but injury filled career for the Cardinals. He went 62-45 in eight seasons with a 3.57 ERA, mostly as a starter, but only appeared in 30 games twice. Harvey owned a 5.89 ERA in spring training, but he struck out 16, walked three and allowed one home run in 18 innings. Those ratios in the regular season should produce a good ERA.

Finally, Marcus Stroman leads the Blue Jays into Tampa Bay against the Rays and Blake Snell. Stroman’s career ERA is much higher than his FIP and xFIP. He owns a high BABIP, and I wonder if it’s as much him as his fielders. Snell is a high strikeout, high walk pitcher, but he keeps the ball in the park.

Enjoy!
