Injury Day

Major injury Thursday featured three important ones. Brett Anderson of the Dodgers needs back surgery:

He was part of the front office’s great rotation folly last season, counting on three starting pitchers with history of injury. Anderson actually might have been the most likely of the three to break down. But Hyun-Jin Ryu never did make a start before being lost to surgery and Brandon McCarthy made just four before he underwent the knife and was gone for the season.

Anderson may be out as long as five months.

Marlins reliever Carter Capps gets the most dreaded sentence in sports writing:

He is scheduled to visit noted specialist Dr. James Andrews on Monday in Pensacola, Florida, to determine if he needs surgery.

He averages 11.8 K per nine innings for his career, and brought his walks way down the last two seasons.

Finally, the Royals lost super sub Jarrod Dyson for six weeks. He gets about 200 AB a year with a decent OBP and great outfield defense.
