The Cubs fell to the Brewers Thursday night 5-4, but the Cardinals lost to the Giants 6-2, and that leaves Chicago as the NL Central champions! Congratulations to the Cubs on a marvelous regular season in which they ran away with the division, and now can cruise into the playoffs. The Cubs rank second in the NL in runs scored per game behind the Rockies, and lead the NL in fewest runs allowed per game by 0.3 runs. They are simply great at scoring and preventing runs, which is the definition of an outstanding team. I thought the Cubs would actually be more dominant than they are going into the season, so it’s nice to see that kind of prediction hold up. They are the first and only team to clinch a playoff and division title this season.
