Games of the Day

The first game of the day offers the best pitching match-up as leading Cy Young contender Madison Bumgarner takes on the defending NL Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta as the Giants play the Cubs. Bumgarner leads Max Scherzer by less than three Tom Tango Cy Young Tracker points. Bumgarner does come back to earth on the road this season, 5-5 with a 3.21 ERA. He allowed 14 of his 21 home runs away from San Francisco in 17 2/3 fewer innings. Arrieta dominates at home with a 2.68 ERA and 93 K in 80 2/3 innings.

The Jays and Rays continue to rhyme as Marco Estrada faces Brad Snell in St. Petersburg. Estrada, a right-handed pitcher, showed better success against left-handed batters this season, holding them to a .192/.265/.347 slash line. The aptly named rookie Snell has an average fastball velocity of 93.4 MPH. He sufferes from a high BABIP, however, .356. Despite that, his ERA matches his FIP.

Finally, Jose Fernandez battles Trevor Bauer as the Marlins and Indians fight for playoff spots in the interleague match-up of the day. Fernandez blew away AL batters this season, striking out 34 in 19 2/3 innings with just four walks. Bauer is 2-0 in his four games against NL teams with a 2.45 ERA.

Enjoy!
