Carlos Carrasco faced just one batter today in the Indians game against Detroit:
Carlos Carrasco departed Saturday’s game against the Tigers after only two pitches. Detroit’s Ian Kinsler lined Carrasco’s second offering off the hurler’s right hand. After a lengthy visit from head athletic trainer James Quinlan and manager Terry Francona, Carrasco retreated to the home dugout.
The Indians initially diagnosed Carrasco with a right hand contusion. He was taken off site to undergo X-rays.
The Indians recently lost back of the rotation starter Danny Salazar, so the Indians rotation is thin right now. There is no score so far in the game, Justin Verlander walking four batters but not allowing a hit.
The Mets announced Saturday afternoon that Jacob deGrom‘s season is over:
“Jacob deGrom will not start (Sunday’s) game,” Alderson told the News. “Jacob has had issues with the ulnar nerve in his right elbow. Not unusual following Tommy John surgery, even in this period of time after that surgery.
“He threw a bullpen (Saturday) and felt great, but went out to shag in the outfield and threw a ball and he had some pain as a result.”
He may undergo surgery to fix the problem. The Mets rotation pitched well since deGrom was shut down, speaking to the depth of their farm system.
